Wear Purple, Raise Funds: How Your Salon Can Back the Hair & Beauty Charity in Under an Hour
Date Published

Some of the best ideas in this industry are the simplest ones. No budget, no big planning meeting, no new kit. Just a team, a bit of colour and a good reason to get involved. That is exactly how the Hair & Beauty Charity is pitching its new Wear Purple Day, and it lands in the week commencing 2 November 2026.
If you have ever wondered how to do something meaningful for the industry without adding to an already packed diary, this could be it.
What is Wear Purple Day?
The Hair & Beauty Charity is the industry's official charity. It supports hairdressers, barbers, beauty professionals and their families through illness, bereavement, financial hardship and crisis. Wear Purple Day is its new fundraiser, and the idea is delightfully straightforward: wear purple in any form and donate.
That could mean a purple top, a lilac accessory, a violet manicure, a bold eyeshadow or a fresh pop of colour in the hair. You choose whichever day suits your team during that week, so there is no need to shut the salon or rearrange a full column. As the charity's president, Jayne Lewis-Orr, put it, you do not need a big team, a budget or weeks of planning to take part.
Why it is worth your time
Fundraising days can feel like one more job on the list. This one earns its place for a few reasons.
It looks after your own people. The money goes straight to colleagues in hair, barbering and beauty who are having the hardest time of their lives. Many of us know someone who has needed that kind of help, and it is reassuring to know a safety net exists.
It is brilliant for team morale. A shared, slightly silly goal does wonders for the mood on the floor, particularly as the nights draw in and the Christmas rush starts to loom. Colour-coordinating the team is a lot more fun than another stock take.
It gives clients a reason to chat. Conversation is the heart of what we do. A purple-clad team invites questions, and "What are you all wearing purple for?" is an easy, warm opener that leads naturally into talking about your industry and the people in it.
It makes brilliant content. Salons are always hunting for fresh, genuine things to post. A team photo in full purple, a client leaving with a lilac tint or a close-up of a violet nail design is exactly the sort of thing people enjoy sharing, and it comes with a worthy cause attached.
How to take part in four easy steps
Choose your day. Pick a date in the week commencing 2 November that suits your rota. A quieter weekday works well, but a busy Saturday gives you more clients to involve.
Wear purple. Hair, make-up, nails, clothing or accessories all count. Even a single purple hair clip is a valid way to join in.
Donate. Give through the Hair & Beauty Charity donation page. Consider a team whip-round, a small donation jar at reception or a pound added to each appointment for the day.
Share it. Post your photos on Instagram and tag @hbcharityuk so the charity can help spread the word.
Making it work for a small team or a solo stylist
You do not need a full salon to make an impact. If you rent a chair, work mobile or run a one-person studio, you can still take part. Wear your purple, put a small sign on your station, mention it when you book clients in that week and share a photo at the end of the day. Small contributions add up quickly when hundreds of professionals do the same thing.
For larger teams, you might add a little friendly competition. Who has the best purple outfit? Which stylist can slip the most creative lilac detail into a client's finish? A small prize and a lot of laughs will keep the day light and the donations flowing.
A few ideas to get clients involved
Clients love being part of something, so give them an easy way in. Offer a complimentary purple nail accent or a temporary hair chalk touch with a donation. Put a note on your booking confirmations the week before. Display a small card by the till explaining where the money goes. Keep it relaxed and never pushy. The goal is to make giving feel natural, not like a sales pitch.
Community is what we are all about
At Purple Hearts Club, we believe the strongest thing about this industry is the people in it. Members tell us time and again that the support of other professionals is what keeps them going, whether that is a kind word, a shared tip or a helping hand when life gets tough. Wear Purple Day is a lovely, practical expression of that same spirit.

Your next step
Open your diary now, pick your day and tell your team today. Ten minutes of organising is all it takes. Then, when the week arrives, put on your favourite shade of purple, enjoy the day and know that every pound raised is going to someone in our industry who really needs it. If you take part, tag us in your photos. We would love to see your salon in full colour.
